Did Women come to the well in silence? The fountain of life giving water filled with beauty, wonder and love for the soul is their offering today.
St Paul’s Anglican Church on Calle Cardo will present a rare opportunity to spend time with Mary Jane Miller, a full time resident of San Miguel who has 20 years experience creating classic iconography. She will speak, teach and show new work and images reflecting her latest insights on women, their voice and lasting effect in the church and in religious art . Classic iconography offers a unique window into church tradition.
In her talk, Mary Jane Miller will focus on the lesser known voices in the Bible and iconography. The slideshow will feature Miller’s iconic Mary Collection followed by her unorthodox renovation of an abandoned chapel while living on a Greek island with her husband for most of 2015.
The conclusion will be a sneak preview of some iconographic images from her next book drawing on the significance of more than one Mary voice in the church.
Miller’s discussions are lively, provocative and often thought provoking. After 20 years in an art form full of symbols, Miller will surely challenge the listeners to think of women in iconographic tradition differently and to see the opportunity for more study and questioning into the lives of Women who are rarely noticed but who have a significant impact in history.
