The aim of prayer isn’t simply to have God hear us.
The mystical end of prayer from above lies in our being attentive to the sound and surprise of God present. There is a vast difference between the prayer of spoken words and the inward prayer of attentive listening and silence. This dimension of God’s love is constant change. The end of the journey inward has its completion is our return to our sacred self.
The mystical end of Prayer is not new spirituality.
I like this photo as well as the idea. Like the Buddha who touches the ground, indicating enlightenment, these prayer hands upside down make me think there is constant prayer happening on going from people we do not even know. Prayer and meditation is not new spirituality.
Peace of mind is yours
Hesychast’s tells us how meditation brings the mind to the hearts chamber. Sit in a low stool, direct your mind toward your heart and keep it there, all the while persisting with a short prayer or mantra in a rhythm with your breath, slowly inhale and exhale. Gradually the mind stops making all the constant connections, emotions soften, distractions fade and there the heart is at rest. Strive for mental attentiveness, inward stillness, union of your heart with the divine heart and use only one word. Peace of mind is yours, finding the connection to your prayer from above.
