I wrote my first book about iconography in response to requests from students and curious people who came to the studio. Most people wanted to know how did I get into the discipline? And how did I learn the technique enough to be a successful iconographer? The books a product of my insights and perspectives as I have grown clearer about God and flourished spiritually over the years.
Anyone who has painted one icon realizes the amount of skill, dedication and TIME it takes to finish one perfectly. (perfect iconography defined as perfected prayer). The answer to How to become a successful iconographer lies in not giving up after one but after one thousand. After you have done one thousand icons, you will want to share the meaning. The books i have written try to clarify what the message and potential for goodness Iconography has brought me.

I was first inspired to write my conclusions after recognizing the absence of women in the bible. They are there, yet unnamed. From there I moved my meditations to verbalizing the radical difference between the man Jesus and the Christ’s energy. Finally, I have dedicated myself to prayer with the Rosary. It is another ancient tool from the Christian church. The familiar chants have promises to open the heart and the mind through Mary’s gift of Jesus. She could not have known the magnitude of what a glorious witness she was to offer the world. As a successful iconographer could not help but tamper with the message and meaning.
1…… An Inspired book about Women from a successful iconographer.
The visual language that is so evident in the sacred art of iconography has enlivened my rebellious spirit. There is no harm or heresy in opening discussion with the male-dominated church landscape of today’s theology. My book highlights images of the feminine: women standing equally beside men in a more contemporary and integrated vision for society. Christ’s teachings regarded women in a variety of roles and the consequences of editing them out of theology have hurt everyone. I am deeply respectful of the iconography tradition and knowledgeable of its long history.
In Light of Women 72-page book incorporates 24 full-color icons
The images are juxtaposed with text that includes religious history, religious context, and my reflection inspired by my meditation. Twenty-five years, working in this ancient technique and prayer form has been a rich and fulfilling journey.
