Can you find prayerful meditation through Art therapy? Meditation is an essential part of our life, While practicing the art, we learn to slow down, contemplate our being and our existence in God. But some of us need a medium through which we can achieve this meditation. Sometimes prayer is not enough, so this meditation can come through art therapy as in the practice of icon writing also known as Iconography.
We all know that there are three levels of consciousness. The first being that of the physical realm (the body). This realm connects us to the world we know, everything we touch and see, the tangible world. This state of consciousness fulfills our basic needs for sustenance: food, drink, comfort, sleep. .
Our second level is the mind. This is where we get a sense of identity and it involves our thoughts and feelings. The problem is that this is where the ego takes control and often we say it is our sense of identity. Often this is the place that gets confused, restless and sometimes tired, where feelings become overwhelming. It is the place where we recognize the need for prayerful meditation of some type.
It Is Where We Find Prayerful Meditation
The third level is the realm of spirit. Entering and recognizing this tate of consciousness requires some type of meditation, and for those who are connected to God it can come in the form of prayerful meditation. However, prayer alone, may not always be the answer and that is where prayerful meditation through art therapy like icon writing can come in. This type of meditation offers a transcendent light that illuminates and unifies all of our conscious levels. It is an elusive consciousness but one where we can connect directly to Good. As humans, we strive to live on all three levels.
WITHOUT PRAYERFUL MEDITATION
Meditation helps us feel connected to our true purpose and to the God we have whether he be a she, ourselves or whatever higher power you believe in. This is the consciousness where we feel truly alive and in touch with all of our senses, and whether it be for a few minutes, hours or days, prayerful meditation can help us find our true focus and the love we have within our beings. Yet it gives us so much and pushes us to feel rewards throughout the day. The only way to get this euphoria for our very life is to slow down and enjoy the moments of stillness and one of the best ways of doing this is through prayerful meditation through art therapy. It is in these moments of stillness that we realize we already have what we want. Everything is as it should be, and simply being alive is enough. It is a state of bliss. For many people, especially those of us who have difficulty reaching this meditative state art like that of icon writing can help them achieve this conscious leve.
ALIVE AND YOUNGER The feeling of disconnection is always there. I used to believe I was an ambitious individual, independent and capable of controlling and understanding reality. How foolish I was! I tried to find aliveness in the physical body, where fitness and health were the ultimate goals. Then I sought it in the realm of the mind, through learning and discipline, but, nothing could satisfy me for long.
I felt torn between the body and the mind, constantly shifting in both directions like smoke in the wind. I imagined that everyone else had it all figured out and that they were unaffected by external factors, health, emotions, family, or expectations. I convinced myself that I would have it all together by the age of 35, then moved the goalpost to 45, and now I have come to accept the futility of such aspirations. Being alive on three levels is akin to trying to control smoke and the wind that carries it.
I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD THE IDEA OF PRAYERFUL MEDITATION THROUGH ART THERAPY
I always understood what the third level was, but could never enter it fully, or even understand where it came from. I did not understand what it meant to be alive in the light. Now, through prayerful meditation in Art therapy I finally understand that every moment I spend in contemplative stillness helps center my reality. It’s as simple as stopping! Meditation has helped me realize that being alive and embracing the light is worth our attention. The mind and body may intrude into our consciousness with each breath, and we cannot prevent that. However, we can shift our focus to observation and focus on being alive and on love. Love for ourselves and love for others.
Prayerful meditation through art therapy requires no participation, judgment, or condemnation; it merely acknowledges existence. And through it all, the breath remains a constant. There is no destination to reach. Being alive happens on three levels and is experienced through all three perspectives. Our levels of consciousness become interchangeable and whole.
SEEKING BEING ALIVE IN THE LIGHT When we achieve a balance between our inner thoughts and our external physicality, the divine light within us bubbles up with irrepressible joy and vitality. Our eyes sparkle with the sheer delight of being alive, both for ourselves and for others. Recognizing the interconnectedness of our body, mind, and spirit leads us to realize that every person on this planet is our brother and sister. When we fight and wage war against one another, we are essentially fighting ourselves. It must stop. We need to use our spiritual light as our guide. We must program ourselves for the highest ability to create good. This is why we must make art and create it with deep prayerful meditation.
