The National Rifle Association should stick to rifles that shoot at a deer or a duck with one bullet and stop defending our right to own assault rifles in our homes. The NRA does not support the Patriot Act. No country needs rapid fire weapons on hand to attack what they do not like. Human dignity has been losing ground over the past few decades because weapons are Big Business Outside the US.
Our un-ethical behavior is leading us all away from a state of well being. We have become vulnerable to the behaviors of those who bear arms. I want to ask where these weapons have been coming from. The NRA is big business outside the US. Their memberships’ agenda is not driven by spirit or peace in the world but rather by money and power.
If God is alive in us, how can we not feel a good bit of shame and sadness for the development of the gun industry and the war machines our taxes support. All rapid fire guns are designed to murder, traumatize, injure, hurt, destroy, assault, ravish, violate, terrorize, annihilate, crush, etc. I cannot remember ever seeing on the nightly news editorials where rapid fire weapons have been gloried for their power to ‘defend and protect’.
In the USA, the right to bear arms was written into the constitution for a country still uncivilized. The word civilized means, “ an advanced stage of social and cultural development, where people are polite and well mannered”. Early settlers were living as explorers in an unknown territory, where they did need defense and protection. But, even then the Indians rode on horse back and shot bows and arrows to defend and protect themselves. The escalating gun industry is not helping us get anywhere near the concept of civilization. I suggest we begin using what God gave us; words and logic to express what we want, instead of using guns and weapons to work out the differences.
The Punishment Does Not Fit the Crime
When we use guns for War, the decimation is fast, furious and extensive leaving cities around the world in rubble and the people homeless. What did any of them do to deserve such devastation. I do not think our highest expression of divine creativity is found in the invention of weapons. Humanity has an enormous potential for love, to give thanks, to help, nurture, create, and flourish. Many simply dismiss my discussion with, “Well Mary Jane, it has always been like this.” and I say, “Why are you not sick and tired of violence?” Rampant violence is now on everyone’s doorstep thanks to the gun industry promoted by the NRA.
Our species might better worry about climate change and promote ways to build a future for the generations who will follow. It is time for understanding, deep thoughts, prayer and reflection on why we like to kill and allow others to kill in our name.
Netflix has a series called the Patriot Act hosted by Hasan Minhaj of India. He is a political comedian. The episode called NRA Global Impact explores how the NRA has been using their money and influence to export their gun culture around the world. Mexico has become one such country. Historically, Mexico has never had more than one gun store in the entire country. On the other hand, the USA has 51,300 retail gun shops in the United States that hold federal licenses. On average, there are more than three gun dealers for every mile of the 1,970-mile border between the countries. The USA is allowing the making and selling of weapons to destroy cultures.
The US Gun Industry propagates many War Crimes.
Trump pulled the US out of the arms treaty agreement, which prohibited selling guns to countries in turmoil. The act of supplying weapons to nations in turmoil propagates war crimes. The impact of guns flowing into Mexico over the past 5 years is a crime against humanity. Selling guns to hot headed frustrated people is a war crime. The easier it is for any nation’s citizens to buy guns, the better it is for the gun industry in America. The National Rifle Association is a cancer corrupting and aggravating the lifestyle of people around the world. Their propaganda began and continues to prosper in the USA and is a crime against God and humanity.
There is no protection or defense against a bullet except another bullet. You can run away but therein lies the next conversation. Immigration. Refuges are those who run away in response to the ravages of war going on in their country. People leave their homes to migrate because a dictator or oppressor has a lot of rapid fire weapons and often uses military violence against its citizens. We need societies filled with abundant wisdom, with a vision for the future and not the involvement of the NRA’s promoting weapons as Big Business Outside the US .
Peace on the planet
