In Light of Women is a book that pairs traditional Byzantine-style iconography using egg tempera with my deliberate question. Why are women’s voices rarely presented in the great feast days of biblical text and tradition? Through icons, I wanted to convey both artistic vision and thoughtful resolve. I seldom saw this theme or combination represented in iconography writing. I found myself wanting to explore and create new icons by pairing my egg tempera technique with historical context, theological reflection, and an honest examination of the place of women within the Church’s visual tradition.
The book speaks to a unique audience
that extends well beyond traditional art collectors.
In Light of Women speaks to a specific audience: readers engaged in women’s spirituality, feminist theology, and faith and gender discourse. My readership includes communities outside the US that follow this conversation closely. Currently, I want to share updates where you can find all my books on three separate sites: sanmiguelicons.com, millericons.com, and sacrediconretreat.com.
My books are written in a format that lends itself to group discussions. In Light of Women takes one image at a time and opens a place for women’s voices in faith and sacred art, domestically and internationally. As an author, I believe the gathering of women will foster personal growth and potential for change in society as well as the Christian church.

What stands out in the book is the collection
of beautifully painted icons.
The full-color plates have a strong potential to connect with faith communities, theological institutions, seminaries, and church leaders. Christian educators, museum curators, and readers interested in religious art will all resonate with questions raised about women’s voices in the Church. The book is more than a contemporary theological reflection. You are invited as readers into a conversation that begins with my thoughts and perspective as I write. The imagined voices of women make the book both visually compelling and intellectually engaging. Write to me with your response, insights, and observations. It is easy to see why In Light of Women will resonate with readers, artists, theologians, and anyone interested in the intersection of sacred art and spiritual reflection.

The most effective book marketing is not about reaching the widest audience. It is about placing a book in front of those readers who will immediately recognize that it was written for them. That is the approach I focus on: creating meaningful visibility that encourages lasting engagement, continued discovery, and conversations that extend far beyond the pages of my book.
