None of us want to be lonely yet from my little experience of 59 years it is inevitable we all experience it at some point, But look what it has to offer. Alone time provides an opportunity to watch, listen, and wait, for all the situations which might arise unexpectedly. If I think of meditation as alone time, new possibilities and beginnings arise while my interior nature is being transformed. Imagine!
So much of our society seduces us into believing there is a person inside me to be revealed or known, what they don’t tell us is; the human experience is always changing. Prayer works. I have tried for a lifetime to embrace non-knowledge. What I think I know is not necessarily truth or reality. Imagine, living a full life never knowing anything for sure. I could live with absolute indifference to what’s around me because I live in what I do not know. Might be scary!
I try to stay present, like each moment is a rebirth. Or if you prefer, pretend each second is a tiny birth of the unknown. If you continually do this, every moment takes on “no” meaning. Like the air or wind, you cannot see or control it, nor from where it comes or to where it goes. Eventually even death loses its significance only because even death would be new and unknown. Hold on to “no” thing, Imagine!
Most of us have a “Way” of our own, but notice the subtlety in how the “Way changes”. Whichever “Way” you practice, try to recognize some kind of likeness to the “Way” for all. My Grandfather used to say there are 6 persons in every conversation between two. Who you think I am who I want you to think I am and who I really am. Talking to; who I think you are, who I think you think you are and who you really are. As I said we know nothing and it changes constantly. Imagine how arrogant we are thinking we know or understand!
None of us “have to” conform to anything for longer than an instant. We do the accepted thing and play the game usually out of habit or fear. Habit because it is easy to conform or fear because we cannot stand the solitude of not being included. I have become increasingly aware of life’s regular and continual contradictions and paradox. I can see wisdom is revealed in storytelling and icon writing. Yet, in truth we yearn for something not found in information or words. It is simply lived and experienced. So very simple; live one second at a time while you Love your enemies, do not resist evil and do good to all living things. In every situation at every moment, Imagine!
