I do not know but I believe beauty enriches everyone’s day dramatically.
Artist’s have a unique ability to “see” ,their capacity to view the world around them includes color, form, sound, light, shadow, etc. We need their perspective to enliven the busy predictable day with a touch of surprise.
Artists see small details or delicate movements in the light and their capacity to draw attention to it in their work jolts us out of what is ordinary and ignorable.
Through creating works of art, creative persons share private brief moments in a tangible way. A photographer, for example, notices wind which moves across the birdbath and captures it in a snapshot.
When that artist shares the image with others, it no longer seems ordinary. It may challenge the viewer to look for those moments in everyday life and celebrate them as the wonders of God.
Painting makes us see. I take the brush and move my eye back and forth to create image. The focus moves back and forth hundreds of times.
I try to capture an image which has drawn my attention, I have seen something peculiar. I make a thought an image. When I look at the finished work, I see the process and the emotional moment again. When I give image for the public to see, they see what I saw or something completely different.
But I know the next time they see something similar they will begin with a memory of the first image. They see again the same thing in another way. It’s a very cool chain of events.
If you are an artist, you are important to the body of Christ and society as a visual arts minister. Create and share your perspective craziness or odd observation, don’t be shy, God is remembered and celebrated because of your effort.
