Icon Painting Delaware workshop in LEWES, DELAWARE November 6th to 11th, 2022
After a long time, St Peters Episcopal church has invited me back for an icon painting workshop in 2022. I am excited and grateful to be doing this fifth workshop in Delaware.
About the Icon Painting Delaware Workshop
Our icon painting workshop will explore ancient stone pigments called egg tempera. Each participant will finish painting one Byzantine Style icon.
Engage in this Extraordinary Icon painting WORKSHOP with Mary Jane Miller. The iconography process will change your perspective about our earth and broaden your awareness.
The group will get an introduction to Byzantine style tradition of painting icons in a contemporary format. Students are led through the preparation of the icon, using egg emulsion, earth pigments, and gold leaf application, tracing the historical and theological basis for icons. The group has a lively and insightful discussions about God, why we are here, and the technique. We cover the symbolism and prayer embedded in this ancient tradition. Our painting courses highlight the contemplative experience through sacred icon art. Everyone will finish one icon.

All of life comes from the unseen energy of God, creation seen in color and formed in witness.
As a female icon painter living in Mexico, Miller believes Byzantine style iconography has the potential to reflect humankind’s continual joy and beauty found in the search for spiritual fulfillment. She teaches the subtle joy in listening to our own personal mysticism. So when you are looking for icon painting classes near me, don’t miss out on this icon painting Delaware workshop. You don’t need to be of any religious belief or even one of the catholic iconographers to enjoy this class.
The best icons communicate stillness in the viewer and can bring about comfort, revelation, a connection to our interior self, and healing. In the icon painting Delaware workshop, we will strive to experience some of these qualities as we paint. There is an infinite range of imagination found in sacred iconography. They do not all have to be orthodox icons, Russian icons or even in the traditional icon style. Ideally, in this class, we can merge the past and our interpretation of the present to create modern art icons.
Each time we immerse the brush to stir the paint, a spiral of color forms. It is enough for us to witness this magnificent, tiny world of paint constantly sharing its own life force and message. We are made whole by the paint, which teaches because it exists in the same way that we exist.
Iconography Workshop
Cost is 400.00 USD.
Can Anyone take an Iconography Class?
Yes. In fact, less experience is always better. I always feel that it is difficult to unlearn what we have learned. Whether it is theology or any other iconography in art form.
Making room for new awareness does not have to be a challenge. Mixing dirt and mystery is definitely uplifting. Every brush stroke reminds you of the moment in Genesis where breath and creation meet. Anything can happen!
You are welcome to make a suggestion as to which saint you want to paint.
