For the artist, modern iconography remains deeply rooted in ancient artistic tradition while at the same time embracing modern abstract distortion. The technique, shapes, colors, and message employed in painting icons exemplify simplicity and reveal the essence of humanity. In my icon paintings, I can sometimes glimpse the Christ that resides within each of us. It is that part of us that transcends our imperfections, beliefs, and idiosyncrasies to become something bigger and more spiritual.
Iconography from The Artist’s Point of View
As cultures and ideologies evolve, icon painting and its iconography become interpretations of the present. These series of contemporary icons, though not necessarily adhering to tradition, reflect my ideas and meditations.
Within the realm of spiritual painting, as artists, we harness an infinite range of our imagination. Our intuition and creative impulses influence both ourselves and those who view our work. After three decades of painting iconography, my real purpose is to perceive life on a profound level, as well as to help others have their own deep perception.
I believe that in this modern era, we can visually experience prayer and contemplation through icon writing as well as through other contemplative methods. One way to achieve this is by observing, analyzing, and interpreting painted icons, whether ancient or modern.
In truth, it is about the act of seeing. When we cannot meditate or contemplate in stillness, we have the ability to pray visually through painting or reflecting upon painted icons.
Each individual’s faith is a personal journey to live and explore. To nurture and invigorate our faith, we cultivate our understanding of spirituality. Iconography rooted in ancient rules, is just another way to perceive this contemplation. I believe that painting icons is an experiential process.
Modern Iconography Remains Relevant to the Spirit
WHEN I PAINT ICON IMAGES, IT REMAINS AS RELEVANT TO SPIRIT AS IT HAS BEEN FOR CENTURIES:
Iconography represents a traditional form of prayer and contemplation.
It holds immense spiritual significance for people from all walks of life.
An icon is an image of the invisible.

My Intentions in My Modern Iconography Work
UNDERSTAND MY INTENTION:
My collection of sacred art breathes visual life into prayer and contemplation. When I paint icon images, they are unveiled through texture, color, and shape. By sharing them, I hope to convey archetypal hopes, dreams, and fears. These creations are the result of focused prayers, tested by time, and offered to my fellow human beings. It is a means of conveying my faith and beliefs, and, in turn, allowing the viewer to embark on deep, spiritual and personal quest.
This is my way of connecting with people, sharing my experiences with them. I wish to extend my visual prayers to everyone, even those I may never meet. It is an offering of connection, a gift of unity, and a promise that we will share in the future..
