We are all one. But we imagine we are not”
I have used the Thomas Merton’s quote a lot and often think about Oneness.
The other day a woman said to me, you are always talking about Commonality! and she said it is the same as “Oneness”. I was surprised to feel a “Skid Mark” happen inside. Walking home i wondered why such a strong reaction to these two words “commonality and oneness”?
I came up with this
Think of your body as God, the whole entire Kahoona, a Universe. The finger does not function as the eye does, the foot does not react the way the skin does, a muscle is not a bone. But they all work as one Unit, One Body, One Spirit, One mind of God.
Oneness< Commonality are not the same. Peace between Nations and tolerance for religious preference begins in part with recognizing diversity and unique expression within the context of one body with many parts, One planet…. No more best, better or right, only shared diversity within our individual habits and customs.
If the foot hurts the mind participates, if the eye is blind the skin compensates with more sensitivity, none of us are everything. So, Be what You are completely.
Peace within and offer it graciously to that which surrounds you.
One Body, One Spirit, One mind of God
