Monastic Communities live apart, away from the cities and tragic to preserve and practice what some might say is outdated spirituality. Like keeping silence or at least a silent tongue, living simple with only what is necessary, obedience to someone else and a time tested structure of community, working daily chores for the benefit of the group and no personal ownership. etc. Living in a monastic community tests the idea of individual austere practices to bring one closer to God.
Less of me, and more
of other is not a new idea.
Today, there is room for new monasticism which teaches us our connection to each other and the earth. It might be beneficial and timely to clarify our commitment to our sacred planet.Let us try to live with silent awe, consciously sharing what is given, respect for the environment, etc since we own it in communion with others.
